Obituary – Thomas S. Balsamo

Obituary

Thomas S. Balsamo, 87, of Berkeley Twp., NJ, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022.

Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Belleville, NJ before moving to Berkeley Twp. 19 years ago.

Thomas was a Foreman for Folander Sheet Metal in Fairfield, NJ.  He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Local 25 and served on the Executive Board and was a founding member of the SMW Local 25 Retirees Club.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a parishioner of St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River. Also a Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 350.

Thomas was a member of the Boy Scouts for 30 years and was the recipient of the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. 

He also volunteered his time with the St. John’s Feed the Hungry, Newark, NJ, Meals on Wheels, Toms River and the Hearty Helpings of Toms River.

Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann  (nee Calcara) in 2012, his daughter Dolores Campolattaro, his son Rocco Balsamo, his brother Morris Balsamo and his beloved dog, Scout.

He is survived by his daughter, Gina Balsamo of Belleville, NJ, his son Thomas Balsamo of Newark, NJ, five grandchildren; Gianna Balsamo, Dana Campolattaro, Lia Gencarelli (nee Campolattaro)and her husband Louis Gencarelli, Nicholas Balsamo, Theresa Woodard (nee Balsamo) and six great grandchildren. His special sister in law Josephine Calcara Moresco and his companion Carol Sendecki and also his half sister Anna Lerman.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 3:00pm – 7:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, October 20, 2022 10am at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River.  Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
